A bitter sweet moment as teacher and learner part ways

Nothing made TKSWR teacher, Leanda Duffield prouder than seeing her learners succeed, knowing she has helped give kids the skills they need for the future.

Being a teacher means you help enrich children’s lives, not just through core educational skills but through responsibility.

This calling implies a deep-seated belief that teaching is one of the few professions that makes sense for loving and caring individuals to pursue.

It was a bitter-sweet moment for all at The King’s School West Rand (TKSWR), as one chapter is closing and another opening up for the Grade 12 learners.

Nothing made TKSWR teacher, Leanda Duffield prouder than seeing her learners succeed, knowing she has helped give kids the skills they need for the future.

The 2021 head boy, Jonathan Harvey started attending TKSWR in Grade R back in 2009, with Leanda being his Grade 1 teacher.

“It is not often that a Grade 1 teacher gets to share this special moment with one of her ex-students. What an honour and privilege to see all this young man has achieved. I am proud of you, my boy,” said Leanda.

Friday, August 20 marked the final day of school before the preliminary examinations were to start in the following week.

Some Grade 12 learners who started school at TKSWR 13 years ago used their final day of school to visit their Grade R classrooms where they first started at the age of five.

“The 13 years I have spent at the school have been a great honour and privilege, I have been able to build relationships that will last a lifetime. I have made memories from all of our athletics days, camps or games in class that I will hold dear for all my life. I appreciate everyone, especially my teachers and friends who have helped and encouraged me to become the best I can be. My family and I are incredibly blessed to have been part of and continue to be a part of the King’s community,” said Jonathan.
