Johannesburg Road Agency has concluded construction on Oribi Street in Constantia Kloof. JRA Head of Infrastructure, Siyabonga Genu said the department spent R2,4 million on the construction.
“We installed an extra storm water system from the top of the street all the way to the bottom. Next to the storm water system we installed sub-soil drains to try and cut off all the water that comes from the ridge.” Construction began in May and was completed on August 20.
The road surface had been damaged in the soil from below ground where large volumes of water travel. Ward 89 councillor, Amelia Bester requested that trees be planted in the nearby park to absorb the excess water.
In February, residents barricaded the street after the tar was pushed up by the underground stream, jeopardising the safety of motorists.
