The King’s School Discovery celebrates spring with themed fun week

Each colour of the spectrum dedicated to His glory

As light warms the inner energies, the colour spectrum symbolises the gifts of nature and the glory of a higher power.

To announce the arrival of Spring, The King’s School Discovery held a week-long festival of clothing-themed colour and fun. From August 30 to September 3, each day of the week gave staff and learners a new opportunity to shed their winter skins and embrace the turning of the seasonal calendar. The week-long fun culminated in a picnic and colour run, with pizza graciously sponsored by Del Forno Horizon View.

The Spring Colour Celebrations kicked off with an ‘inside-out’ day which was followed by a Marvel or Disney character themed dress-up day. On the Wednesday, each phase within the school was assigned a colour to wear for the day, then Thursday was Pyjama Day, providing one last chance to put on the winter woolies before packing them away for the warmer months.

Friday’s marquee celebration was the ritualistic spreading of one’s light to another. Beginning the day all dressed in white, staff and learners turned each other into a rainbow of illuminated smiles as they chased and forcefully sprinkled coloured powder on one another. “It is about change, newness and spreading our light to the glory of God,” said educator and one of the organisers, Jessie Lloyd.

Similar to the Holi Festival of Colours, each colour has a deep significance that anchors the celebrations in the spiritual. “As a Christian School, it centres around the divine messages of God,” said Janique Kinnear, explaining the symbolism of yellow for the glory of God, blue for the healing power of God, purple for royalty, and orange for the passion of praise, among others.

The power may stain, but even when washed away the glorious glow is carried in the heart and soul.
