The King’s School Discovery announce new learner executive for the coming year

Kayden Thomas and Nikita Wait chosen as head boy and head girl

With educational foundations and loving support, the pillars of a community are groomed.

Acknowledging their finest examples of exemplary character, The King’s School Discovery held a ceremony to announce their incoming learner leadership body, September 13. The new prefect and learner representative council (LRC) members were elected several weeks ago but the Monday morning event was an opportunity to formally induct them with an official badge-pinning.

A proud principal, André Berrangé, gave a stirring speech about the responsibilities of leadership and the challenge that lay ahead. Instilling the need to persevere through any self-doubt he said to his new leaders, “Ask yourself ‘Does God make mistakes?’,” urging them to be steadfast in their duties. Emphasising the unbreakable bond of the Trinity, he highlighted the symbolism of the three-coloured chord that makes up the braiding on their blazers and the school’s ethos.

Principal Berrangé then complimented the parents on the outstanding young adults they have raised, advising, “Be patient, be kind and be helpful”. David Kandemiri, English Head of Department, reminded the learners of how they are now the outward projection of the school’s character. “You are a microcosm of this community. You represent us inside and outside the gates so be an example wherever you go,” he said.

The newly appointed head girl is Nikita Wait while Kayden Thomas takes up the head boy duties. Due to the comparatively small number of learners, there will only be one deputy, with Khanya Fokazi given the honour. Together, they form the sharp end of a leadership group pushing the ever-growing school into the future.
