Illegal ambitions with exotic bravado can often come back to bite.
In a multi-unit operational success, police have arrested one man for possession of and dealing in narcotics. Police raided the suspect’s home near South Road on Thursday morning, September 30, and found almost R200 000 worth of various drugs. Alarmingly, some of the confiscated narcotics were disguised as lollipops and chewable sweets.

“The police operationalised information received about suspected drug dealing in the area and proceeded to the identified location in Roodepoort, not far from two schools” elaborated Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo.

“The members conducted a search of the premises and recovered various types of narcotics which include hydrophonic dagga, dagga trees and edible narcotics” he added.

In addition to the narcotics, police also discovered the suspect’s peculiar pet, a Nile Crocodile. Roodepoort / Krugersdorp SPCA Inspector, Mike Allen, was on scene to handle the out-of-place reptile. Nile Crocodiles can grow to up to five meters in length but the specimen found at the property appeared to still be a hatchling, measuring only around 60 centimeters
Mike confirmed the animal was handed over to police’s Endangered Species Unit and a member of the Environmental Management Inspectorate, known as the Green Scorpions, was later on scene to interview the suspect. The alleged drug dealer is expected to appear in the Roodepoort Magistrates Court in due course while further investigation is underway.
