Women’s luncheon grants matric ball wish

The purpose of the luncheon was to raise funds for a matric ball for disadvantaged learners

Local business women and Mrs South Africa 2021 contestants came together for the purpose-driven women’s luncheon on September 19. The aim of the event in Roodepoort was to raise funds for a secondary school in Diepsloot, which has never had a matric ball.

Mpho Mogotsi, Mrs SA semi-finalist and former learner at the school was joined by Hirsch’s executive director, Margaret Hirsch to give the Grade 12 learners at Itirele-Zenzele Secondary School the glitzy send-off they deserve. Mogotsi also launched her book, ‘Awakening to the Truth’ at the event with a portion of the sales going towards the Matric Dance Campaign.

Yael Geffen, CEO and shareholder of Sotheby’s International Realty was one of the guest speakers and spoke about resilience. “Being your authentic self is one of the best ways to measure the success in your life. Whether it be through the trophies you win, the money you make or the legacy you leave behind; always be true to who you are. And this is a great way for us to help these young learners get there.”

Prior to the luncheon, the women embarked on a drive, collecting dresses and suits for the learners to wear on their special night. They collected 500 dazzling outfits, beating their initial goal of 200. They also raised close to R50 000 in ticket sales and by auctioning off some of the dresses.
