Davidsonville youth cast ballots demanding service delivery
Young voters in the West Rand township turn out in hope of reviving neglected parks, broken facilities and community infrastructure.
Davidsonville voter Hayley Mia says she voted for the future of the township and its children.
Mia said a lack of opportunities and recreational activities in the area is leading children to drugs and substance abuse.
She added that Davidsonville continues to suffer from poor service delivery, with little attention given to the needs of the community.
Another young voter, Eden Hendricks, echoed those concerns, saying there are many other issues in Davidsonville.
Hendricks pointed to street lights that are not working in most parts of Davidsonville, a swimming pool that has been closed for a very long time, and parks that have been neglected for more than 10 years.
“Our parks are a mess. I wish you could see how both parks in Davidsonville look, it’s been like that for more than 10 years,” said Hendricks.
Call for basic infrastructure
He also claimed that a dam wall broke in 2023 and was never repaired.
“That’s why I’m voting, because I want to see the difference in this community. Not for us, but for the next generation after us,” he said.
“My friends and I used to play in both parks a lot and they used to look nice,” he said.
Voters have a few more hours until all voting stations close.
