Learner to compete for pageant crown
Achieving her goals is what keeps her motivated, satisfied and accomplished.
With great style, beauty, intelligence and finesse, 15-year-old Hoërskool Roodepoort learner Lemique Wentzel is taking on the national pageantry scene in hopes of transforming as many lives as possible.
This purpose-driven teen is now competing alongside 49 other finalists for the Miss Teenager South Africa 2021 crown.
Lemique’s pageantry journey started when she competed in a modelling competition at her school in Grade 2. She went on to compete in various other modelling competitions and even won the titles of Miss Sunshine and Miss Photogenic in Grade 3.
“As I learnt what it was all about, I wanted to show young girls that not only beauty matters, but also intellect, ambition and resourcefulness. I want to encourage young girls to have self-confidence because we are all beautiful and unique in our own ways,” she said.
She now has the opportunity to organise charitable events and activities of her choice. She also has to partake in charitable events hosted by her sponsors, which were provided by the pageant.
The charities she has been involved with include the Saeed Foundation as well as other foundations dedicated to distributing sanitary pads to less fortunate girls.
“These foundations helped to contribute to a drive I did for girls in a community that is less privileged. Sanitary care is a basic need for young girls, and my goal is to help a girl child stay in school. I have even been supplied with pads from Christopher Booysen from a foundation called The Lady in Pink,” Lemique said.

Achieving her goals is what keeps her motivated, satisfied and accomplished. That’s why she is excited to take on her next project of assembling care packs for both boys and girls at her school.
“My mom and I will be setting up an NPO of this nature for the underprivileged community. I chose this cause because my passion is helping and inspiring people. Taking on projects like these has helped me make a difference in so many young girls’ lives. In future I would not only like to provide sanitary care for girls and boys, but also food and clothes and much more,” she said.
Lemique is looking forward to the finals of the Miss Teenager South Africa 2021 competition, which are fast approaching. On October 10 she will compete for the big prize.
