Haven for those saving little lives shows appreciation for the elderly
Lil Choices and Rae Bagus host annual Seniors Day
Those with many years behind them are living proof of the potential of a life fully lived.
As an annual show of appreciation to the gracefully aging men and women of the community, Lil Choices hosted their Senior’s Day on October 3. Fronted by matriarch, Rae Bagus, Lil Choices provides sanctuary for pregnant women wanting to carry their children to term. Through option counselling and compassionate guidance, Lil Choices’ core aim is to help young girls reject abortion in favour of giving the baby a chance at life.
Life at all ends of the spectrum is equally precious and the Senior’s Day is a way for Lil Choices to give back to those who have contributed much to the lives of others. Lil Choices cooked almost 300 meals for seniors around Florida and Maraisburg, with 250 going out to homes and care facilities. The remainder of the curried stew and rice dishes were served at Lil Choices headquarters on Dan Pienaar Avenue under Rae’s expert brand of hospitality.
Despite the tough economic climate, companies still give what they can, highlighting the trust Rae has built with those who support her cause. “2020 and 2021 have been extremely trying years for the organisation. One of our other income streams was hosting fundraising events, and of course with lockdown this also took a back seat,” said Rae.
Volunteers like therapist Magda Laubscher, help maintain the exemplary standards of the facility. “Rae and the team really do a great job. They care for the mommies, making sure they and their babies are getting everything they need,” said Magda, who helps the mothers work through feelings of rejection and abandonment. Many of the babies brought to term go through the adoption process, as Magda said, “When the baby leaves here, it goes to a place with purpose”.
The gift of life and the appreciation of everyday possibilities are the light at the end of Rae’s tunnel. By showing her and her team’s love for those of all ages, an example is set for the young girls that even though the beginning may be tough, all is possible by simply being allowed to live.
