Get to know the ActionSA candidate in Ward 97

Ward 97 includes Honeydew, Radiokop, Eagle Canyon,Little Falls, Wilgeheuwel and Strubens Valley

Rainier Kanes is the candidate councillor for ActionSA in Ward 97. Kanes recently answered questions on the upcoming elections.

What will you do differently than the previous councillor?

I’d like to give thanks to the former councillor for the “good work” that has been done for the community of Ward 97. However, if elected as the new councillor things would work differently as I would be part of a team where the motto of our work would be ‘what can we do better in the communities we serve’ instead of ‘what I can do better’. ActionSA is all about team work.

Outside your council duties, how are you involved in the community?

I’m actively involved in the informal settlements in and around Roodepoort as a whole, as well as a volunteer for church work.

What past experiences make you uniquely qualified for this role?

Firstly, I am a community member. I often went to schools to reach out to the youth on how to better protect themselves and motivate them never to give up on their dreams.

What is your vision for this ward?

I want to see government schools in our area as there are in excess of 35 private schools in Ward 97. With that being said it will create more job opportunities as well as more affordable schooling for the community. We are also in need of reliable infrastructure such as power and water. My dream is to build a public recreation centre incorporated with a community library that would cater for both the youth and the seniors, as well for people with disabilities.

How do you feel this vision can be achieved?

This can be achieved by getting more involvement from the Department of Basic Education as well from the greater City of Johannesburg Municipalities Budget and Government. We can also approach local businesses for fundraising.

How does the party mirror your personal beliefs?

ActionSA, stands for ‘Truth and Justice for All’ and we believe in ‘True and Direct Democracy’. I stand for all our core values: economic prosperity, non-racialism, social justice, respect for the rule of law, ethical leadership and electoral reform.

Why should residents vote for you?

I will fight for the community’s needs and place the community above all, and I will have effective service delivery measures in place. Most of all I will avail myself 24/7 and my mobile number will be available to the community at all times
