Meet Democratic Alliance Ward 85 candidate, Zoné Niemand

Ward 85 comprises of Kloofendal, Strubens Valley, Carenvale, Honey Hill and parts of Horison, Princess and Florida Park.

Democratic Alliance Ward 85 candidate, Zoné Niemand, answers a few questions on the upcoming local government elections.

Q. What would you do differently to the current ward councillor?
A. It is not about what I can do differently than the previous councillor but about what we as a community can do together going forward and build on the good work that has been done within the ward.

Q. How have you been involved in the community?
A. I have been involved in the greater Roodepoort community assisting with numerous ward-related issues within the Roodepoort area including cleaning up the open spaces and reporting power and water outages as a member of the Ward 84 branch committee. I have also assisted charity organisations to promote food security within the Roodepoort area.

Q. What past experiences make you uniquely qualified for this role?
A. I have a legal background which is a big advantage since most of the work of a councillor involves regulations, policies and by-laws. I am also a team player and work alongside experienced councillors to find the best solution for a problem. I also have ten years’ experience as a DA activist.

Q. What is your vision for your ward?
A. My vision for the ward is to preserve our natural environments, ensure that our communities are kept safe and that residents get the basic service delivery they deserve.

Q. How do you feel this vision can be achieved?
A. We can preserve our natural environments by working hand in hand with local residents associations, communities and CPFs to ensure that our environment and communities are kept clean and safe, while working hand in hand with City officials to ensure that basic services are delivered in a timeous manner without delay.

Q. How does your party mirror your personal beliefs?
A. I believe that everyone should have the freedom to do as he or she chooses within the spectrum of the law, and accept the consequences of their actions. I also believe that everyone should be treated with fairness and not be discriminated against based on their race, language, sexuality or religion, or anything for that matter. I believe that everyone should have equal opportunities. I believe in a diverse society where we are not defined by our differences, and my party mirrors these beliefs by the simple meaning of freedom, fairness, opportunity and diversity.

Q. Tell the residents of your ward why they should vote for you.
A. I am young, dynamic and have the energy to serve Ward 85 without any distractions. As a member of the DA I believe in an open, opportunity-based society, where every resident has equal value. A vote for me will be a vote for the betterment of the entire Ward 85. We are One.
