Police officers in the West Rand District nabbed 161 suspects during weekend operations between January 21 and 23.

Sergeant Mulalo Ndou, communications officer for the Muldersdrift Police said they have committed themselves to addressing the root causes of crime, and ensuring that the Disaster Management Act regulations are adhered to.

Members of law-enforcement agencies in the District dealt with liquor-related crimes in efforts to minimise accidents and culpable homicides. Suspects were arrested for crimes including rape, drunk driving, possession of copper cable, business robbery and impersonating a police officer.

“Others were arrested for various crimes such as possession of dangerous weapon, common assault, intimidation, shoplifting, malicious damages to property and undocumented persons. All arrested suspects are expected to appear in various magistrates’ courts within the District,” Ndou concluded.
