Obstacle course of potholes on Christiaan de Wet
The problems are evidently many for regular users of Christiaan de Wet Road.
The problems are evidently many for regular users of Christiaan de Wet Road. One section of the arterial road is littered with potholes and another section has multiple faulty traffic lights.
Julian Pienaar said the road hadn’t been attended to in quite some time. “It is not safe driving there; you are swerving to try avoiding potholes but then you put yourself in danger of crashing into other cars. Those potholes have not been fixed in four and a half months. I’ve tried contacting our ward councillor but I don’t get an answer. It is one of our main roads but it is severely damaged.”

The frustrated driver said the situation is extremely unfair on taxpayers especially when their calls to the Johannesburg Road Agency and the ward councillor go unanswered. “Come election time they promise us service delivery but that is where it ends. We need answers. It is simply not fair and it is not safe,” Pienaar added.
Kelebogile Mahapo from Gauteng Province Road and Transport said the road would be attended to on Monday January 31.
