TKSWR hosts spirited inter-house athletics meeting

Games and sports play an integral role in the development of learners and their lives in general. They instil discipline, inculcate team spirit, sportsmanship and leadership qualities, but above all learners derive a lot of pleasure from participating and working as a unit.
After two years off from sporting activities The King’s School West Rand (TKSWR) was finally able to organise their annual inter-house athletics meeting that took place on Wednesday, January 26.

An aggressive but friendly contest pitted the learners in their four houses – Emerald (green), Jasper (red), Sapphire (blue) and Topaz (yellow) – against each other to try and outshine their rivals for the bragging rights for the whole year.
The house names represent four of the gem stones in the Breastplate of the High Priest, which represent the 12 tribes of Israel (Exodus 28: 17–20).
The day’s competition that included learners from the school’s Foundation Phase, Intermediate Phase and High School saw inter-house rivalry and sporting prowess come together in a wonderful carnival atmosphere while learners, staff, parents and supporters observed strict Covid protocols.

Not only the athletes were determined and enthusiastic, but the supporters on the stands also contributed to this atmosphere as they battled it out for the Spirit Cup, which eventually was won by Sapphire.

The day delivered some outstanding results but the bragging rights went to House Emerald for winning the inter-house trophy for first place.
