Passionate about wood
This avid carpenter now enjoys working with wood and steel because his clients love his products.
Being a carpenter requires far more passion and endurance than it does skill and precision.
If it wasn’t for lockdown Colin Weideman might never have disco-vered his love for working with wood and steel. When Colin lost his job almost two years ago as a result of the pandemic, he knew he had to try something new to keep afloat.
“When lockdown hit us I lost my job because the company was not making money. So I had to try something to get money in. We have a big garden and lots of different birds, so I made a bird feeder,” he said.
“The birds loved it so much I made a few more. I then managed to sell them and I quickly discovered that the people love them. It progressed from there and I made so many different ones. A friend asked if I could make him a rocket stove. I first did research and then made them.”
He soon advanced from bird feeders to steel bomas and log splitters, as well as all different kinds of boxes for succulents. According to this avid carpenter, “I now enjoy making these items because it’s satisfying to see how people love what I am doing. It just makes me feel so happy and proud,” Colin said.
Colin’s home-run business currently goes by the name Coli Craft, and his bestseller is known as the bench feeder. He hopes to see at least one of his bird feeders in everyone’s garden this year.
