World Scouts Day celebrated

Every year, World Scouts Day is observed on February 22, as this day marks the birth of Lieutenant General Robert Baden-Powell who is known as the founder of Scouting.

The King’s School West Rand (TKSWR) learners Abigail Brunette, Lara Kriel, Aiden Graaff, Alec Graaff and Ontlametse Motsamai who currently attend Cubs/ Scouts agreed that they would wear their Cubs uniform to school for Founder’s Day in celebration of Lord Baden-Powell‘s birthday.

“Scouts Day is a unique day observed by members of the Scout Movement, and the celebration takes place in nearly all Scout associations across the world.

“World Scout Day is a day on which Scouting representatives vow to keep the pledges made by the Scout Movement,” said Abigail.

Baden-Powell’s tomb has been turned into a pilgrimage destination in Kenya. It is not only a tourist attraction, but also a gathering place for members of the Kenya Scouts Association and the Kenya Girl Guides Association to commemorate scouting.

This year the date of Lord Robert Baden-Powell’s birthday is a palindrome – a sequence of letters or numbers that read the same backward and forward.

‘Twosday’ 22 2 22 marked the end of the 222 days in sequence this century. In numerology 2222 is associated with positive energy and indicates that you are likely to lead a balanced and fulfilled life.

In honour of this once-in-a-lifetime occurrence, Scouts South Africa issued a Special Founder’s Day Event badge that could be purchased at the Scout Shop for R15.
