Clean-up on Drift River

The bridge over Drift River in Muldersdrift got a much-needed makeover on February 6.

The bridge over Drift River in Muldersdrift got a much-needed makeover on February 6. Councillors Shenan Cochrane and Greg Dalton were joined by volunteers from the community to clean up the bridge which is on the main route.

“With all the rain the bridge had become overgrown with vegetation, making it dangerous for pedestrians to cross as they would have to walk in the road into oncoming traffic,” Shenan said. She said the bridge is a historical centre in Muldersdrift and used to attract tourists.

From as early as 10:00 the group was hard at work tidying, weeding, trimming back trees and clearing the road. Build-It in Pinehaven donated paint to have the bridge repainted. The morning’s activities received hoots of support from passing motorists.

“I’d like to thank everyone who assisted in the clean-up on Sunday, and in particular the Build-It team for their paint donation. Our clean-up campaign has ensured the safety of pedestrians from our community when they use the bridge daily, and will prevent accidents caused by swerving vehicles,” said Shenan.
