Trinityhouse Little Falls opens new hockey Astro Turf

Hoërskool Linden and The King's School West Rand were invited to kick off the official opening matches.

The evolution of the playing surface from the traditional grass to artificial pitches has been pivotal in changing the game of hockey to a strikingly large extent.

Friday, February 25 saw the official grand opening of the Trinityhouse Little Falls Astro hockey field that provoked a feeling of excitement from teachers and learners as they walked onto a new facility and prepared to compete.

The feeling in the air was identical to that of a large multi-day sporting event with the anticipation of intense competition, and the unveiling of fresh infrastructure and new sports facilities.

During the event, the school welcomed their House Brands Executive Committee and many other guests.

House Brand COO Merice Roopram and Trinityhouse Little Falls Executive Head Ben McCarthy officially opened the field.

Hoërskool Linden and The King’s School West Rand were invited to kick off the official opening matches.

Ever since field hockey was played on Astro turf at the 1976 Montreal Olympics, Astro hockey fields have been the gold standard for the game.

“Thank you to all the role players who were involved in making this dream come true; here’s to many more matches in the future,” said McCarthy.
