Muscular Dystrophy Foundation of South Africa encouraging supporters to ‘Hustle 4 Hope’
Campaign allows supporters to use whatever talent or hobby they have to get involved
The Muscular Dystrophy Foundation of South Africa (MDF) has launched a campaign that puts the power in the hands of individual fundraisers.
Using the crowd-funding platform GivenGain, the national campaign goes by the title Hustle 4 Hope, and draws inspiration from MDF’s slogan, ‘Your support means Hope’. The campaign encourages those who have the MDF cause close to their hearts to take their own initiative in helping the organisation fulfil their mandate. Separate from their main fundraising page, each supporter becomes an active participant in the MDF mission.

“The reason we have used the word ‘hustle’ is that we want to make this project open to every single person interested in helping us reach our goals. You can literally do anything to get people to support your cause,” said MDF Gauteng’s Business Development Manager, Robert Scott. “For example you could cycle every weekend, bake cupcakes, do pushups, homemade crafts, your daily gym routines or whatever you wish. We felt this was important to get everyone involved no matter who they are or what they are doing. The only requirement is to be interested in helping us raise awareness and to generate donations to help us deliver services,” he added.
One example of a person taking up the hustle is runner Naomi Janse van Rensburg. For two weeks between February 5 and 19, Naomi completed a series of runs totalling just over 167km. Her campaign is called ‘I run for those who can’t – one step at a time’, and her target is to raise R10 000 for MDF. Naomi is creeping up on the R4 000 mark and to add to that, go to https://www.givengain.com/cc/i-run-for-those-who-cant—–one-step-at-a-time/
For those unable to make a financial contributions Robert encourages supporters to visit their Facebook page and share the campaigns far and wide to generate awareness of the work MDF does. Robert urged, “It is really open to absolutely everyone, no matter how big or small. If anyone wants to start a campaign they need only contact me at mdfgauteng@mdsa.org.za or call me on 011 472 9824 and we will get everything set up.”
