Suspicious housing allocations in Fleurhof probed

“I condemn those implicated in these illegal allocations, and should we discover that some of the officials from the Housing Department are implicated, they will face the full might of the law."

Member of the Mayoral Committee for Housing in the City of Johannesburg (CoJ), Councillor Mlungisi Mabaso has called for an investigation into suspicious housing allocations in Fleurhof.

In a statement released by CoJ, Mabaso confirmed that he had called for an urgent investigation into the unlawful and unauthorised allocation of houses to the community of Fleurhof.

Mabaso has written to the Group Forensic and Investigation Service Head, General Shadrack Sibiya, calling on him to urgently open a probe into the alleged illegal housing allocations.

This follows information that people were allocated houses without Mabaso’s approval two weeks ago and some were scheduled for Wednesday, March 30.

Mabaso told the Northsider that people who were allocated the houses did not even qualify at this point as most had applied recently and jumped the queue of people who had applied in 1996, but were yet to be allocated homes.

“What I find disturbing is that some of the people on these dodgy lists do not even have Identity Documents, and some are too young to receive houses,” said Mabaso.
