Church's career expo a great success

The WRLCC annual career expo showcased a wide range of industries.

The West Rand Lutheran Community Church (WRLCC) held its third annual career expo at their premises on CR Swart Drive on August 1.

The event was well attended by children from the congregation and from various local schools, and featured representatives from a wide range of industries.

According to organiser Thandeka Mwandiambi, the event aimed to expose learners to a wide range of industries through engagement with industry professionals.

“We had representatives from the medical, legal, HR, IT, aviation, physics, banking, finance, food, and law enforcement sectors taking part,” she says.

“Instead of making learners sit through a host of long-winded speeches, we decided to have the event in the form of a panel discussion led by an MC.

“This proved to be the right decision as learners were glued to the conversation.”

Mwandiambi added that some preconceived ideas about certain professions were also debunked, as one of the speakers representing JMPD, for instance, spoke about the good that law enforcement agencies do in communities through various community outreach initiatives.

“They learned that there are many more aspects to certain industries than what they might have previously thought.”

Co-organiser Deovalent Leotlela adds that the event is an annual initiative run by the WRLCC Ladies Ministry.

“We are extremely grateful that our event was such a huge success, and we hope to do so again next year,” she concludes.
