On Tuesday, April 5, the Helderkruin Clinic held their annual Open Day. This event usually serves to inform the community about the services they render to the public.

During the event various nurses spoke about important topics and challenges frequently faced at the clinic. This included cervical cancer, immunisation, Covid-19 as well as several services rendered to patients visiting the clinic.

According to professional nurse, Antoinette Molefinyane, who also spoke on behalf of the operational manager, community members were often confused as to what the clinic could offer them, and what not.

“Although we are able to assist with a wide variety of health issues, we unfortunately can only do so much. This is why we wanted to clarify our services so community members could know – more or less – where to go for the help they require,” she said.

The Helderkruin Clinic renders the following services:
• Antenatal care
• Immunisations for babies from birth up until 12 years
• Chronic patients who are not stable
• Central chronic medicines dispensing and distribution for stable patients
• Minor illnesses
• Health screening (blood pressure, blood glucose and BMI checks)
• Mid Upper Arm Circumference to monitor poor nutrition
• Pregnancy tests
• Urine tests for infections
• Covid-19 tests and vaccines
• HIV testing and counselling
• Pre- and post-exposure prophylaxis
• Antiretroviral (ARV) therapy
• Prevention of mother to child HIV transmission
• Cervical screening
• TB screening and treatment
• Various family planning methods

“In addition to these services we screen patients’ mental health and refer them to the relevant institutions. Lastly a social worker comes in around once a month,” Antoinette said.

“Anyone is welcome to come and pay us a visit. We will assist as best we can to ensure the patients are happy and healthy.”

The clinic is currently open from 07:30 to 16:00, Monday to Friday. If you are uncertain, or want to find out more, feel free to contact the clinic on 011 764 5403.
