Under the watchful eye of coach Anne-Marie Groenewald, Blake also participated at the SA Nationals in Gqeberha from April 6 to 11, and will be attending the Winter Champs in Sasolburg in July.

Blake said her ultimate goal is to make the team for the Olympics and become a coach to help other kids.

Some advice she has for her peers who love swimming and wish to start competing is to enjoy the time in the water and not feel pressured to perform.

“You should really start swimming; it helps me when I’m stressed or angry. I just let it all out when I’m swimming, and swimming can keep you out of trouble. If you are trying to get or keep fit, you will never go wrong with swimming,” said Blake.

According to Blake’s mother Kerri, the advantages of swimming are that it provides an all-over body workout, builds endurance and muscular strength, and helps maintain a healthy heart and lungs, as well as teaches goal-orientation.

Blake wants to continue swimming and like most young swimmers she would like to get a scholarship in the USA and swim there when she has completed her schooling.
