Glowing and constructive feedback for Crawford drama learners

The learners rehearsed and performed on a professional stage, and receive guidance and training from professional sound and lighting technicians.

On Wednesday, May 18 Crawford International Ruimsig’s winning Playfest cast, ‘Di and Diana’, participated in the annual Festival of Excellence in Dramatic Arts (FEDA).

The play was written and directed by Theresa Moses, a grade 12 Crawford learner. Her play followed Diana, who boards a train and is confronted with Di, her younger self. They continue to have a dialogue, and by the end of the play she realises she is talking to a figment of her imagination.

The learners had the opportunity to rehearse and perform on a professional stage, and receive guidance and training from professional sound and lighting technicians. “The spirit of the festival was evident in the manner in which the casts of all four plays on the night interacted and supported each other,” explained Rhona Crawford.

“The adjudicator gave us , commenting on all three performers’ commitment to their performance, as well as the intimacy of the directing and staging.”

The learners who participated in the play received nominations in the following categories: Best Actress, Khanya Makha, a grade 12 learner; Best Supporting Actress, Nthando Siyada, also in grade 12; and Best Cameo, Hayley Volkwyn, a grade 8 learner. The learners also received a nomination for the Best Soundscope.
