Roodepoort Theatre presents Le Nozze Di Figaro with a modern twist

Sparkling but never superficial, beneath its shimmering surface darker issues still relevant today are discernible to alert audiences.

Roodepoort Theatre is pleased to announce the Le Nozze di Figaro production coming to its stage. It is a collaboration between Cape Town Opera (CTO) and the Gauteng-based Sempre Opera.

According to the organisers, major progress has been made in terms of the diversification of Roodepoort Theatre productions and marketing mix by bringing a significant impact on the diversification of audiences.

The opera will be directed by Magdalene Minnaar, with set and costume design by Maritha Visagie and Rabia Davids.

The Sempre Opera Instrumental Ensemble will be conducted by Schalk van der Merwe, with a fantastic South African cast that includes Conroy Scott as Figaro, William Berger and Siphamandla Moyake as Count and Countess Almaviva, Brittany Smith as Susanna, Megan Kahts as Cherubino, Monica Mhangwana as Marcellina, Danie Verster as Bartolo, Chris Mostert as Basilio/Don Curzio, Alida Stoman as Barbarina and featuring Rouel Beukes as Antonio.

The Sempre Opera Ad Hoc Chorus will perform under the direction of chorus master Colleen Maré.

Le Nozze di Figaro with a slightly modern twist will run from July 6 to 15 at the Roodepoort Theatre.

Sparkling but never superficial, beneath its shimmering surface darker issues still relevant today are discernible to alert audiences.

“We are excited to be bringing Mozart, an inspiring and divine production of a pleasant sound that will carry souls through the hills and valleys of life as it has been the most difficult two years in the arts.

Patrons can expect a sublime bliss of music in the theatre,” said Pritheven Pillay, General Manager of Roodepoort Theatre.

Tickets are only R220 and patrons are encouraged to book seats online to avoid disappointment as seating is limited.
