New Lions President taking over the reins

The ceremony was not only about introducing the new president, but also to show appreciation for various members' service to the community.

On Sunday, June 12 the Lions Club Wilro Park inducted newly elected Johan Els as Lion President.

He is taking over the reins from Sandy van Heerden who had been the club president for the past two years. During the ceremony Sandy was commended for her unwavering leadership and guidance through the unprecedented crisis caused by the pandemic.

The ceremony was not only about introducing the new president, but also to show appreciation for various members’ service to the community. Sandy ended off her term on a high note when she presented a number of awards.

The awards included the following:

• Membership Award – PDG Bernd Gerhard
• Eagle Award (Soaring to new heights) – Deneera Sing
• Project of the year – Delphine Ferreira for Project Fidget Fidget
• Project worth special mention – Absolut Wilro Golf Day
• Lion of the year – Sydney van Heerden
• Presidents Theme (Kindness Matters) – Roleen Hunter

“Many more Lions received awards and praise during the induction ceremony, among them Sydney, Suzie our treasurer, and Nicola our secretary. Johan – who will be serving as president for 2022/ 2023 – announced that he has big plans for the Lions Club, and for the ongoing service achievement of the Club,” Lion Lorraine Scheepers said.

Sandy also used the opportunity to thank the Lions Club for their support, dedication and hard work during her term as president. She congratulated the new president and wished him the best of luck for the term ahead.
