‘Where did our postboxes go?’

"We were left without a clue as how to where our boxes were moved to," explained Constantia Kloof resident Anne.

In a world full of change, that’s ever evolving, residents in Constantia Kloof were calmed at the thought that of all things, the post office will not change. Imagine their surprise when they went to Checkers Hyper on 14th Avenue where their postboxes were situated, to find that in their stead a brand new Clicks stood.

The residents aren’t upset about the new shop, rather with the way the removal of the postboxes was handled. “We were left without a clue as how to where our boxes were moved to,” explained Constantia Kloof resident Anne. While there have been rumors that residents can get their mail in Krugersdorp, nothing has been released to give them an official answer.

When the Northsider went to the Shopping Centre on 14th Avenue, we saw a postbox stand near the garbage area. Upon inspection of the boxes a security officer who has asked to remain anonymous told the Northsider that those postboxes were moved here from another location of which he is not sure where. He alleges that the Post Office intends to fix the postboxes and reuse them.

“I am not sure where they will move the postboxes that were here. The old boxes are broken in a heap in the centre’s trash,” he confided in the Northsider.

The Northsider has contacted the South African Post Office in hopes to get some clarification on the location of the postboxes and where the residents can find the current location of their post.
