Rand Park family safe after fire tears through house

Cause of fire in Jangroentjie Street still to be determined.

A fire has destroyed a house in Jangroentjie Street on the afternoon of July 20.

Residents in the area alerted security groups to the possibility of a fire shortly before 13:00. Upon confirming the fire, Fire Ops SA in their blue Discovery Health fire trucks and Community Support Services fire responders raced to the scene.

Owner of the house, Charles Komape, relayed that he left the house around midday to run an errand. His wife was at home in bed in their bedroom at one end of the house and when he returned the fire had begun in the vicinity of the kitchen.

City of Johannesburg Emergency Management Services were on scene but have not yet confirmed the possible cause of the fire. Fortunately, no injuries were reported and the fire was extinguished shortly before 15:00.
