SANBS celebrate Women’s Month
This Women's Month, community members are encouraged to partner with SANBS and lend a hand.
Some may question the strength of a woman, but time and again women have displayed perseverance in all areas of their lives. The South African National Blood Service (SANBS) remembers a powerful moment in history when women took to the streets to make their voices heard.
These women who fought to make it possible for others to achieve what once seemed impossible, are commemorated. It is through their actions that more women fill up boardrooms, take seats in parliament and are celebrated for their sporting achievements.
Daily, blood transfusions save the lives of women who experience excessive blood loss during childbirth or as a result of gynaecological complications. Almost 26% of all blood collected by SANBS is used for their treatment.
“We are passionate about women who are caregivers, nurturers and mentors to our nation. Join SANBS in giving back to the mothers, aunts, grandmothers and sisters who played pivotal roles in raising us, by donating blood to save them when they need it most,” SANBS Senior Manager for Marketing, Brand and Communication, Thandi Mosupye said.
While some people may not be able to donate, they can assist in collecting much-needed blood. In everyone’s networks of friends, family members, colleagues and community members there will always be someone who is able to donate blood.
This Women’s Month, community members are encouraged to partner with SANBS and lend a hand in ramping up recruitment efforts by urging healthy, eligible blood donors to donate blood. Alternatively, individuals can host a Good Hood blood drive in their communities to assist blood recipients who live among them. One blood donation can save up to three lives.
