Marking the beginning of their expansion, Skye College held a breaking-ground ceremony on Friday evening August 26. After a day of overalls and safety equipment, teachers scrubbed-up for a glitzy celebration of the potential that lay hidden just a few yards away. Beyond the boundary wall, construction had started on an extended campus that highlights the custodian’s commitment to excellence.

Executives from Thrive Investment Managers and their Thrive.ed colleagues, along with founding members of the Zeiss Road school, basked in the future possibilities. The school has had several incarnations in their six-year history with each step being a leap forward. Eagerly anticipating a December unveiling, the new campus will see the school expand the preparatory school grades up to Grade 6 and launch the high school with Grades 7 and 8.

Following the rhythms of the Marimba band, the key role players took to the microphone. Ayla Neeleman has been with the school since inception and a champion of the school’s potential. Neeleman described the moment as ‘more than just a ground-breaking but something very special’, noting how the eventual falling of the wall behind her would be symbolic of a dream realised.

Henri Papp, co-founder of Skye College and Thrive’s Chief Operating Officer absorbed an enthralled audience. Speaking of Thrive’s intentions to deliver purpose-driven contributions, he said, “Here we aim to shape lives for years to come”.

Colleen Traviss-Lea gave an impassioned rallying cry on behalf of Thrive’s Chief Executive, Matthys Maré, inter-splicing his words with hers.

“Everyone in any profession has been touched by a teacher along their path,” said Traviss-Lea, reminding the gathered educators of their importance.
