Life Flora celebrates its nurses
Nurses at Life Flora Hospital were in for a treat on International Nurses' Day.
Life Flora Hospital recognised the invaluable contributions of nursing professionals during their celebration of International Nurses Day on May 12.
According to hospital manager Jacques de Klerk, this year’s global theme, ‘Our Nurses. Our Future. Caring for nurses strengthens economies’, deeply resonates with Life Healthcare’s commitment to investing in, respecting, supporting, recognising, and protecting nurses.
“International Nurses’ Day is an important date on our hospital calendar as it allows us to honour and celebrate our nurses for their incredible commitment to excellence in patient care.
“Our nurses not only work hard to provide quality care through their clinical expertise, but they also go above and beyond to lend a listening ear and provide a compassionate touch, which often contributes significantly to a patient’s recovery.
“It is their heartfelt care and dedication that truly sets them apart.”
Life Flora senior nurse manager Margaret van Rooyen says, “We understand that respecting, supporting, recognising, and caring for our nurses is vital to ensuring they can perform their roles effectively. We value the person, not just the profession.”
The celebration sessions were marked by enthusiasm and appreciation. From early morning, nurses were greeted with clapping and cheers as the night shift departed and the morning shift arrived, passing through a guard of honour in the staff entrance and exit passage. The nursing management team stayed to greet the next night shift with the same enthusiasm.

The Eagles Landing event area at the hospital was transformed into a ‘Wild West’ music festival extravaganza. Each session included a candle-lighting ceremony and the renewal of the nurses’ pledge to the service of humanity.
Following this, each nurse received a hearty lunch pack to enjoy while watching a dance-off competition between teams.
