As the calendar turns, West Rand residents reflect on their New Year traditions, from family gatherings to festive meals, sharing how they celebrate with loved ones.
From braais and buffet spreads to family trips and church visits, West Rand residents reveal how they welcome the New Year with joy, connection, and celebration.
Chantal Malan said, “I spend the day with family, we have a braai and spend time together. In the evening, we then go to church.”
Atang Mojakisane added, “I spend time with my children. For two years, I didn’t get to spend New Year’s with them, so I feel I owe it to them. My children and their mother are what is most important. I make a buffet of mixed cuisines for them to enjoy.”
Chabe Lethoko shared, “I cook mostly on Christmas, and on New Year’s we have a braai and go on a trip. I spend it mostly with family – family is very important and they come first.”
Tracey Stewart concluded, “I don’t do much on New Year’s; Christmas is more important to me. I am going to visit my brother in Canada for the coming festive season.”
