Life Flora bids farewell to Dr McMichael

It is with mixed emotions that Life Flora Hospital announces that Dr Gary McMichael, medical oncologist, has relocated to the Western Cape to pursue new professional and personal opportunities.

Dr McMichael has been an integral part of the Life Flora Hospital team, making significant contributions to the care of our patients and advancing the quality of our oncology services.

His expertise, dedication, and compassionate care to our community for the past 25 years will leave a lasting impact on our patients and colleagues alike. While we are sad to see him go, we wish him every success and happiness in this new chapter of his life.

As they bid farewell to Dr McMichael, they are pleased to introduce Dr Sze Wai Chan, medical oncologist, from Sandton Oncology. Dr Chan is a practicing medical oncologist in all aspects of cancer care. Furthermore, she is the director of clinical research at Sandton Oncology and is involved in local and international clinical trials. She is a member of ASCO, ESMO, IASLC and is an EXCO member of SASMO.

Dr Chan is the vice president of the Melanoma Society South Africa (MSSA). She has authored in peer-reviewed journals and has presented abstracts locally and abroad.

She serves on both local and international advisory boards. Dr Chan was trained professionally at the University of Witwatersrand (Wits) and was previously involved with the Wits Human Research Ethics Committee. She is on the programme committee and a speaker at the World Conference on Lung Cancer 2025 in Spain. Dr Chan is passionate about improving care and access to the latest evidence-based treatments for cancer.
