St Catherine's hosts successful primary school netball tournament

Young netball stars showcased their skills, sportsmanship and teamwork during a fun-filled day of competition and community spirit at St Catherine's Convent.

The netball courts at St Catherine’s Convent were alive with energy and excitement on Saturday, May 30, as the school hosted a vibrant primary school netball tournament that brought together players from different schools.

Players from Florida Primary School, Panorama Primary, Die Ruiter Primary and Skye College, ranging from U8 to U13 age groups, gathered for a day of friendly competition, sportsmanship and community engagement.

The tournament followed a round-robin format, with each match lasting 15 minutes. Teams switched sides after the first seven minutes to ensure fair playing conditions for all participants.

Parents, coaches and supporters lined the courts throughout the day, creating an electric atmosphere as they cheered on the young players and celebrated their achievements.

According to St Catherine’s head of Primary School Colleen Main, the purpose of the tournament was to bring together different communities through sport.

“We also wanted to provide girls with an opportunity to enjoy a fun-filled day with their peers from other schools and spend quality time with their families,” said mrs Main.

In addition to the action on the courts, a variety of food stalls offered refreshments and treats for players, parents and visitors to enjoy throughout the day.

To recognise the participants’ efforts, all players received certificates, while the best player from each group was awarded a commemorative key ring.

Following a successful day, the school is hoping to establish the tournament as an annual event.

“We hope that all participants and their families left St Catherine’s with a sense of camaraderie, friendship and community spirit after sharing a memorable and enjoyable day,” she added.
