Body found in local stream

Police suspect foul play in the case of a female body discovered in a local stream.

The body of a woman was discovered by a passerby in the Muldersdrift-se-loop at the Roodekrans Park and Lapa on June 11.

According to Roodekrans Neighbourhood Watch (RNW) chairperson, Andreas Oberlechner, a member of the public visited the RNW OPS Room in Wilde Amandel Street in Roodekrans and reported a body in the river.

“One of the police chaplains that work with us happened to be in the office at the time,” Oberlechner said. “We immediately alerted the police, and a team was sent to investigate and retrieve the body.”

According to the media officer for the Johannesburg Flying Squad, Raymond Sambo, members of the Johannesburg Water Police Diving unit responded. The body of the female was discovered naked and in a ‘supine position’, lying on their back, with their face and abdomen facing upwards.

“Based on this and other evidence from the scene, police suspect foul play in this case,” Sambo said.
