Businessman shot and killed in Witpoortjie

Police are on the lookout for suspects involved in the shooting and killing of a Soweto businessman.

Provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo has confirmed that the police are on the lookout for suspects who shot and killed a well-known businessman from Soweto.

The 70-year-old victim, believed to be the owner of Moses Fruit and Veg located on Impala Road between Tshepisong and Snake Park, was shot and killed on the corner of Corlett Avenue and Ham Street in Witpoortjie, on July 27 at about 18:30.

According to a statement sent to the Roodepoort Record, police received information about a shooting incident, and upon arrival, found a male victim with gunshot wounds inside an Isuzu bakkie. He was certified dead at the scene.

“Preliminary investigation suggests that the victim was shot by three males who were driving in a white Mercedes-Benz. It is also reported that the suspects took a black bag from the victim before fleeing from the scene,” reads the statement.

A murder and armed robbery case has been opened, and Masondo urges anyone with information that can help with the investigation to call their nearest police station or call the crime stop on 08600 10111.
