Helderkruin homeowner shot dead during home invasion
A Helderkruin man was fatally wounded while confronting an intruder on Sunday night.
Roodepoort police confirmed that a resident was shot dead during an alleged home invasion at his house in Banket Drive on Sunday night, October 13.
According to provincial police spokesperson Colonel Mavela Masondo, the homeowner was shot by one of the intruders and succumbed to his injuries on the scene.
“Police have opened a case of murder and house robbery for investigation and the search for the intruders is underway,” he says.
The intruders managed to gain access to the property at about 22:15 on Sunday night. The victim, identified on a community WhatsApp group as Stefan Meyer, allegedly confronted one of the intruders and was fatally wounded during the altercation.
The community is planning to hold a candlelight vigil for Meyer at 620 Banket Drive at 18:00 on Thursday.
