Smash and grab suspects nabbed

The dramatic car chase led to their successful arrest.

Two suspects involved in smash-and-grab incidents were successfully apprehended after a co-ordinated effort by various crime-fighting units on October 14.

The incidents occurred earlier that day.

According to André Aiton, the media director of Beagle Watch, their CCTV team and Specialised Crime Unit started tracking the vehicle of the suspects as soon as the crimes were reported.

“Later, at around 17:00, the team received an alert indicating the suspects were about to strike again. Crime Specialists Leon van Zyl and Jacques Morton immediately responded and engaged in a high-speed chase. After a dramatic car chase, the suspects finally abandoned their vehicle, left it idling, and fled on foot into the greenbelt.

“The pursuit continued with support from the police’s Flying Squad, Sophia Town police, JMPD, Tau Security, JMPD’s K9 Unit and Vision Tactical, but the suspects initially disappeared. However, the police arrived in a helicopter. As the helicopter swooped down to take a closer look, the turbulence displaced a thick carpet of leaves, exposing the two suspects,” Aiton explains.

He further added that the suspects were then taken into custody by Sophia Town police.
