Provincial commissioner praises police and private security for arresting jewellery store heist suspects
Police and various security companies bring armed robbers to justice after a jewellery store heist at Clearwater Mall.
A swift and decisive response from the police and private security companies brought an abrupt end to a brazen daylight robbery at Clearwater Mall yesterday, October 22.

Eight armed robbers stormed into Wolf Brothers Jewellers, holding employees at gunpoint and making off with a substantial amount of jewellery. However, their escape was short-lived, as police and private security companies intercepted them as they attempted to flee the mall and area.

According to Gauteng Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo, a shootout ensued, leaving two police officers and three suspects injured. One officer was treated on the scene, while the other was taken to a local medical centre in serious but stable condition.

“Four of the robbers were cornered and arrested on Christian de Wet Road, attempting to get away with two firearms recovered, while three more suspects were arrested in Dobsonville, where their getaway vehicle was located, with two additional firearms seized. Luckily, our officers recovered some of the stolen jewellery,” Masondo said.

Masondo commended the hard work of law enforcement agencies in ensuring the capture of all the robbers and ensuring the safety of community members.

“These arrests should send a message to all criminals that we are ready for them this festive season. We wish the two officers who were injured a speedy recovery and commend them for their exceptional work,” Masondo added.
The suspects currently face charges of business robbery, attempted murder and possession of unlicensed firearms and are expected to appear in the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court soonest.
