Former ward councillor leads by example as Davidsonville turns out in numbers

A veteran community leader urges residents to shape their future at the ballot box as queues build at the local recreation centre.

Davidsonville residents in Ward 71 turned out in big numbers to make their mark in this year’s local government elections.

The line at the recreation centre at 13:04 was moving slowly, as it is believed to be the only voting station in Davidsonville. However, residents said they had patience and braved the heat to have their say.

Among them was former ward councillor Laetitia Stuurman, who served in council for more than 10 years and was excited to have made her mark.

“It’s a matter of must that we have to vote. I have been voting since I grew up,” said Stuurman.

“It’s not all about me, but it’s about the future. We have to build the South Africa we want.”
