Another explosion at Welties switching station

The newly installed RMU at JG Strydom Switching Station exploded.

Another explosion occurred at the JG Strydom Switching Station this evening, April 13.

The Ring Main Unit (RMU) unit exploded on Thursday, April 11, causing a widespread power outage.

The unit has since been replaced but could not be tested due to a massive outage caused by a felled tree that damaged main overhead cables in Kloofendal.

City Power has been working since Friday, April 12 to repair the damaged cables and restore power to the Roodepoort region.
