TID upgrade deadline approaches

City Power advises customers to upgrade their prepaid meters before the due date.

As the Token Identifier (TID) upgrade deadline approaches, City Power (CP) reminds customers to verify prepaid meters conversion from Key Revision Number (KRN) 1 to KRN 2.

According to CP spokesperson Isaac Mangena, KRN 1 and 2 is a number that identifies a vending key within a supply group. The upgrading of the meters and the software used is similar to that of a mobile phone update.

“With 99% of vending prepaid meters already converted, customers must confirm their meter’s status to avoid disconnection. The KRN 2 meters offer advanced features for better monitoring and management of electricity usage and facilitate tamper detection and prevention.

“CP faces challenges with non-vending prepaid meter customers, primarily due to tampering; hence, it is important to upgrade as soon as possible,” Mangena explains.

The verification method is as follows:

1. Receipt verification: Check for “KRN 2” on your receipt after purchasing electricity units
2. Contact City Power’s call centre: Toll-free number 0800 202 925
3. Visit customer service centres: Get assistance from City Power staff

Customers are advised to upgrade their prepaid meters before the cut-off date on November 24.
