City Power announces scheduled maintenance and ongoing outages in Roodepoort

Residents are urged to plan for the scheduled outages and monitor communication channels for updates on repairs and any changes to the maintenance schedule.

City Power has issued an update on planned maintenance and current outages affecting several areas in Roodepoort.

Residents are advised to take note of scheduled power interruptions and ongoing repair efforts while conserving electricity to avoid further strain on the system.

Planned maintenance will result in power outages in various areas between 08:00 and 16:00 on specific dates. On January 12, the William Nicol Switching Station will impact Florida Park, Florida Hills and Floracliffe.

The Wilgeheuwel Switching Station will undergo maintenance on January 13, affecting Honeydew Ridge, Honeydew Manor and Wilgeheuwel.

On January 21, maintenance at the Florin Road Switching Station will disrupt power in Florin, Little Falls, Strubens Valley, and parts of Honeydew. Scheduled work on January 22 at Penny Street Substation will affect Witpoortjie, Groblerspark and Lindhaven. Stormill Ext 2 residents will experience outages on January 27 due to maintenance at Spokeshawe Switching Station, while Domkrag Switching Station will impact portions of Robertville on January 28.

Further maintenance is planned for February 4 at the Jan Smuts Switching Station, affecting Florida Park, Florida and parts of Florida CBD.

In addition to the planned maintenance, several unplanned outages are currently being addressed. Operators are investigating a supply loss at Ontdekkers Substation, which affects Horison and surrounding areas. At Fleurhof Substation, full supply has been restored following a relay protection fault that caused an outage in Fleurhof Ext 5, 7, 8, 9, and 31. In Wilgeheuwel, Radiokop and Honeydew Ridge, power has been restored to 80% capacity, but five mini substations remain offline while repairs to a cable fault between Paul Kruger and Penchard Road continue.

Tshepisong Switching Station is also experiencing an outage caused by a trip on Eskom’s side, and power will be restored once Eskom resolves the issue.

City Power has temporarily suspended load reduction until the end of January but has urged residents to use electricity sparingly as a significant increase in consumption could trigger the reinstatement of load reduction without prior notice to protect the grid from potential collapse. Residents are also reminded that inclement weather may delay response times for repairs and restorations, as safety conditions must be ensured for the workers.
