Maraisburg residents take matters into their own hands

Hands of Maraisburg cleaned their neighbourhood, tackling Shamrock Street.

Residents of Maraisburg gathered on June 27 to take matters into their own hands and clean their beloved neighbourhood.

The team, known as Hands of Maraisburg, came bearing gloves, brooms, spades, refuse bags, and big smiles as they tackled the neglected area under the bridge in Shamrock Street next to the old age home.

With determination and a sense of purpose, the group set to work removing reeds, creating a path for walkers, and clearing dumping and debris from under the bridge.

According to Fazlin Samodien, the group was established in May to reclaim their neighbourhood.

“We are just residents coming together and cleaning anywhere where there is a need,” said Fazlin.

The initiative was sparked by the perceived lack of action from local leaders and the municipality.

“Our leaders and municipality are hardly doing anything for us,” Fazlin added, highlighting the significant need in the area.

The Hands of Maraisburg remains committed to their cause, and through their efforts, they hope to inspire others to join them in making a positive impact on their neighbourhood.
