Johannesburg Water (JW) spokesperson Nombuso Shabalala has confirmed to the Roodepoort Record that JW is not responsible for the water disconnection at the Donovan McDonald Retirement Centre.
“We have checked our records and can confirm that no disconnection instruction or request was issued for the property in question,” she said.
Shabalala added that they were informed the water meter had been removed.

“There is no record of a request to remove the meter, but we have been informed through the ward councillor that the meter has indeed been removed.
“At this stage, we do not know who removed it.
“When a legitimate disconnection is carried out by JW, a disconnection notice is always left on-site, clearly indicating the amount due. No such notice was issued in this instance.
“To address the matter urgently, we have logged a work order for the relevant depot to replace the meter and reconnect the supply. A special request has also been submitted to the depot to prioritise this case for swift resolution.”
