Longstanding electricity fault finally repaired

City Power has confirmed that a faulty overhead line in Maraisburg has been fixed.

A damaged overhead power line that has been causing havoc in Maraisburg for months has finally been repaired.

According to Maraisburg Engen Service Station manager Lebo Tlotleng, the damaged cable has been disrupting business at their station and surrounding properties, resulting in frequent power outages.

“We would contact City Power, who would send a technician to restore the electricity, only for it to go out again within a day or two,” she says.

The Roodepoort Record approached City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena, who confirmed the problem has been attended to.

“Following multiple reports of intermittent power supply, our maintenance team was dispatched to investigate the root cause of the recurring outages,” he says.

“Upon inspection, it was found that one of the overhead lines supplying the area had developed excessive sag over time. This was primarily due to a damaged tension support on the aerial bundle conductor cable.

“The sagging line was further affected by the vibration and movement caused by heavy-duty vehicles passing along the route, which occasionally led to temporary disconnections.”

On October 8, City Power teams undertook comprehensive repairs, which included replacing the faulty tension support with a new, reinforced unit designed to better stabilise and maintain the correct height of the cable.

“This intervention has effectively addressed the underlying cause of the outages, ensuring that the overhead line now remains secure and unaffected by external vibrations or weather conditions.

“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused to our customer and appreciate their patience and cooperation during the repair process.”

Mangena urges customers to continue reporting any power-related faults, theft, or vandalism through our digital service channels at citypower.mobi, or by calling 011 490 7484.
