Florida South community works together to beautify King Square Park
Dedicated volunteers transform King Square Park, making it safer and more beautiful.
The Florida South Resident Association (FSRA) continued their commitment to community beautification on October 18 by hosting a clean-up of King Square Park.
Despite the drizzling weather, the team showed up enthusiastically to make a tangible difference in their neighbourhood.

The team comprised residents, members of FSRA, and volunteers from the KCCC Foundation. Together, they rolled up their sleeves to remove litter from around the park, including grassy sides, curbs, and other common areas cluttered with debris. Their efforts aimed not only to enhance the park’s appearance but also to promote safety and community pride.

Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo also lent a helping hand, bringing in their chainsaws to clear the lower branches of trees. They also chopped fallen trees into small pieces.
“We’re cutting the bottom of the trees because criminals often use them as hiding spots, which poses a danger to residents and visitors alike,” said FSRA chairperson Rodney Churchyard.

The FSRA plans to continue its efforts in maintaining and improving public spaces, emphasising the importance of community involvement and shared responsibility.
