City Power continues to roll out Free Basic Electricity registrations
Qualifying individuals have until the end of the year to register.
Qualifying individuals and households have up until December 31 to register for free basic electricity (FBE).
According to City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena, under the FBE programme, disadvantaged individuals will receive between 50kWh and up to 120kWh of free electricity each month, depending on income and household circumstances.
For example, families of four to seven members could receive up to 80kWh, while larger households with eight or more people could qualify for up to 120kWh.
He added that pensioners, people living with disabilities, child-headed households, unemployed individuals, women, residents in informal settlements or high-density areas, and those earning R7 800 or less per month are encouraged to apply.
These customers are also exempt from the R70 service charge and R130 network capacity charge, saving R200 monthly.
To assist qualifying customers in registering for FBE, the City of Johannesburg Health and Social Development team is available from Monday to Friday, between 09:00 and 15:30, at 100 Christiaan de Wet Road in Florida Lake.
