Hope revived for Etna Street as a project manager has been appointed

The street collapsed in 2022 and has been closed for traffic ever since.

Etna Street has been the white elephant of Florida Hills for about four years now, but there’s finally a glimmer of hope.

The road suffered severe damage during heavy rains in 2022, which resulted in the street being closed to traffic.

According to Florida Hills Residents Forum (FHRF) chairperson Stanton Nell, a project manager has been appointed, and they are now waiting for a quantity surveyor to be appointed.

FHRF has been a whistleblower on this issue, engaging with the Johannesburg Road Agency about the deterioration of the road, but little has been done.

Nell briefed the residents during the forum’s annual general meeting held on Tuesday, November 18, at Hoërskool Florida.

“After that, they will do a budget to ensure there is money, and if that all goes well, a contractor will be appointed, and we will have a commencement,” he said, feeling very hopeful.

For now, the street remains closed to traffic.
