Waste collection delays affect residents

Despite the delays, residents are urged to place the dustbins for collection as usual.

The City of Johannesburg’s waste management company, Pikitup, has advised residents to expect potential delays in waste collection services across all depot areas.

In its statement, it mentions that delays are due to the introduction of new fleet service providers.

The company explained that the new providers will need time to familiarise themselves with existing collection routes. Pikitup apologised for any inconvenience this may cause and also appealed to residents for patience and understanding during this transition period.

Collections in many areas, including Weltevreden Park, several streets in Ruimsig, Honeydew, Little Falls, Strubens Valley, Poortview, and Panorama, were outstanding on Monday. Resuming yesterday, they proceeded to Tuesday’s routes and the weekly schedule. The outstanding areas collections are expected to run through the weekend to catch up. Service levels are expected to improve once the new fleet service providers become fully accustomed to Pikitup’s waste collection rounds.

The delays have caused frustration for the residents, with some expressing their unhappiness with waste not being collected on time through the community WhatsApp groups. Others have reported that Pikitup is continuing with the collection rounds in the different parts of the area that were left behind.
